Canal+ Polska secures football rights

Canal+ has signed a new licensing agreement with the Polish premier football league Ekstraklasa granting it transmission rights in Poland for all games in the seasons 2023/24 – 2026/27.

The four-year deal, worth around PLN1.3 billion (€269 million), covers TV, Canal+ online and the internet, with at least 100 matches shown being in 4K. One match a week plus brief highlights of games will continue to be shown in free to view channels.

Significantly, new programmes aimed at specific age groups will also be offered on Canal+ channels, Canal+ online and social media, with the first to appear as early as this season.
Commenting on the agreement, Marcin Animucki, the president of Ekastraklasa, said: “We are glad that we will continue to cooperate with Canla +, as it has been our proven partner for years, not only in good times, but also in bad times, as demonstrated by the pandemic period. The contract with Canal + guarantees us financial stability and conditions for the further development of the league and clubs. This will be possible thanks to a significant increase in value, but also to redefined areas of league promotion, which we will implement together with television and clubs. This is also very good news for fans who will still be able to watch matches in the highest quality, including 4K, and at the same time gain access to additional materials on new channels”.

Edyta Sadowska, president of the management board and CEO of Canal+ Polska, added: “We have been supporting the development of Polish football for almost 30 years, which is why we are very happy to continue our cooperation with Ekstraklasa and Polish clubs. The contract value is once again record-breaking, but our investments in the development of Polish games have always exceeded the financial support resulting only from the contract amount. Our editorial and promotional activities, which we will continue, constitute a huge added value that builds the league’s value. In the coming months, we will present our viewers with even more magazines, new formats and technological solutions that will show the native games from every possible angle. We will also want to attract the young generation of viewers who are looking for completely different categories of content in the media. We have all the necessary products and platforms to reach them”.
